Archery is quite physical you need strength in your upper body and a general all round fitness level to take part. However I don’t want to make you feel that you need to be a superhero to take up archery.

Archery is what I would class as one of those all round sports, most people start off by trying out a local archery club in some case you don’t need to join straight away just drop in and explain that you are considering taking up archery as a sport an would like to see what its like. You will most likely be given the opportunity to even have a try by the tutors if you show an interest.

By dropping into an archery club you will have an opportunity to find out which type of bow and other types of archery equipment you need as a beginner. Indeed you will most probably be given some invaluable information on where to obtain your kit. By joining an archery club you may even be able to purchase kit at a discount through the club itself.

One bit of advice would be not to purchase your kit straight away leave it for a two or three weeks so as to get a better idea of what you want to do. Remember that you could do outdoor archery, indoor archery or even field archery so as well as your archery kit you need to consider which area you want to go into. Just remember field archery basically simulates hunting techniques.

In all three areas indoor archery, outdoor archery and field archery will allow you to meet different people who enjoy the sport, it may be worth considering buying your bow and trying each to see where you fit in and where you get the most enjoyment from, in all three areas you will come across competitive archers and archers that make their own archery equipment.

If you decide to opt for field archery then remember this will cover bow hunting and could also cover bow fishing which is fun in itself, but it will also offer another angle as you will need to learn to understand the habits of the animals you will stalk. This is an area that will involve you needing to learn a different type of subject like where animals live and what they d in the wild and how to find them.

There is even the equivalent of clay pigeon shooting but without the gun! Field archery can be extremely enjoyable but without the need to kill living animals. Archers will walk around a course where there are a number of animal shaped targets and normal targets set at different distances that the archers score by hitting.

After trying archery out why not consider making your own arrows for example and put your thoughts and ideas into practice
What ever you decide good luck and enjoy.
